Recontextualize / Romanticize, DAAART’s 3rd annual visual arts showcase, is accepting submissions to our open call! We invite artists throughout the Asian diaspora in Texas to apply! Chosen artists will showcase their work at Hyphen Space at their brand new location!
👼WHO: Asian artists based in Texas
🎨WHAT: 2D & 3D artwork that can be hung or displayed on our walls. At this time we cannot accept 3D work intended to be displayed on floor pedestals. (3D work that can hang from the wall or be displayed on small wall shelves are acceptable.)
💖 This year’s Theme is Recontextualize / Romanticize. We want to take an active role in shaping our communities’ narrative and the image of “Asian American”. To recontextualize is to fundamentally change how an idea, object, or text is understood. We need to recontextualize because the Asian American identity is not a monolith and has been defined by folks who don't think like us, live like us, or see like us. To romanticize is to examine any subject matter at its most idealistic form. To reclaim our narratives, we ask our community to define, reinterpret, and recontextualize romance. Who gets to choose between romanticizer and romanticized? What does romance, and more broadly love, mean within our community?
